Wait, it really works with no service?
Yes, Bluetooth works without cell service or Wi-Fi. Put two phones in airplane mode, leave Bluetooth on, and try it.
How far does it reach?
One hop covers roughly a city block, depending on walls and crowds. Every phone running Nobars can pass your message along, so the more people around you, the farther it travels.
Does it drain my battery?
Not in a way you'll notice. Nobars uses Bluetooth Low Energy, the same low-power radio your earbuds use, and it listens in short bursts instead of all the time.
Can the person carrying my message read it?
No. Private messages are end-to-end encrypted before they leave your phone. The phones that relay them only carry a sealed envelope they can't open.
What do I have to sign up with?
Nothing. No phone number, no email, no account. Pick a name and start chatting.
